Frequently Asked Questions
What is your approach to therapy?
At JWP we believe that good therapy is tailored to your unique needs (i.e. a “person-centered” approach). We will work with you to figure out your goals and the approach that is most beneficial to achieving those goals. Each member of our team applies a multicultural, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral (i.e. CBT) lens to our work with clients.
Do you see straight individuals / couples?
Absolutely! We have found that being queer actually gives us a unique approach to therapy with straight people and relationships. While our website and practice is geared towards welcoming LGBTQIA+ people, many of our clients identify as cisgender and/or straight.
How does insurance work?
If you have health insurance, we can submit claims to your insurance company (i.e. “courtesy billing”). You must meet your deductible before insurance will start to help pay for therapy. After your deductible is met, you will either continue paying your fee and receive reimbursement checks from insurance, or you can pay your co-payment and your insurance will pay us directly for the remainder of the fee.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
Yes! Sliding scale pricing is available to clients experiencing economic hardship. Priority is given to trans folks, BIPOC, and people with disabilities.
Is your office accessible?
Yes, the office is located next to an ADA-accessible subway station (West Fourth Street) and the office building has an elevator.
What is your cancellation policy?
Sessions must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the session, otherwise the client is responsible for the full fee.
Can I speak with you on the phone before booking a first session?
Of course! We are happy to offer a free 10-15-minute phone consultation to answer any questions and try to figure out if there’s a good fit between us.
Do you do in-person as well as virtual sessions?
Yes, we work with folks in-person as well as virtually to fit your schedule and needs.
